Welcome

Thank you for visiting my website. In these pages I have outlined some of my philosophies as a business broker, and what it takes to successfully sell a small business. In an effort to educate both buyers and sellers, I will continue to add information specific to selling Bay Area small businesses. If you’d like to learn more about me or my services I can be reached at (510)868-5369.

Confidentiality

When I represent a business for sale, I use discretion to find qualified buyers and control the flow of privileged information about the company. All qualified buyers must enter into non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) prior to learning the details of the business. This is done to help ensure the business’s customer base, employees, creditors, and suppliers are aware of the sale only after an offer has been accepted from a qualified buyer. Owners should also take great care to protect their business during this sensitive time by minimizing the number of people they choose to make aware of their intent to sell.

Relationships

Building relationships is one of the most important, yet often neglected components in selling a business. I feel it’s important to understand the key concerns of both the buyer and the seller. This becomes incredibly important when we are at the negotiating stage. A deal is much more likely to be successful when both parties clearly understand one another’s positions and are able to effectively communicate their concerns through an intermediary.

Making Informed Decisions

I make a strong effort as a business broker to educate my sellers and buyers to help ensure they are able to make well informed decisions. When both the seller and buyer are well-informed as to the value of a business, they are able to make decisions with confidence. When both parties feel confident in their decisions, deals are much more likely to succeed.

When representing a seller, I emphasize preparation. Preparation is an important factor when trying to demonstrate value to a potential buyer. For this reason I spend a great deal of time preparing a marketing package highlighting the various aspects of the business. To decrease the likelihood of surprises for potential buyers and ensure my marketing report is accurate and up to date, I conduct weekly follow ups with sellers. The better prepared an owner is when putting his or her business on the market, the greater the probability they will be able to justify a higher value at the negotiating table.
